Sunday 100 km Ride – A Story of Commitment and Grit

Dr Anil Nausaran
Nitya sandesh, meerut. Sunday morning began in darkness and discipline. As per schedule, Mukesh Chaudhary and I reached the assembly point—Health Check Diagnostics, opposite Zila Sahakari Bank, W.K. Road. Before that, at 4:00 am, I had given wake-up calls to Mukesh and Hemant Kumar. Mukesh responded, but Hemant didn’t. I kept trying till 5:00 am, but he couldn't not join us. He is my regular companion. So, at exactly 5:00 am, Mukesh and I rolled out.

After the toll plaza, Mukesh decided to turn back from Jhunjhuni, and I continued alone toward my destination, Meerapur. I reached, clicked a few photos, and then started my return journey to Meerut—keeping my promise to Navinder Singh. I called him, shared my live location, and he started his ride around 7:30 am. At 71 years of age, and despite the cold, he was still riding with passion.

He caught up with me near Jhunjhuni, and we took a short rest at the toll plaza. Compared to last Sunday, the weather was colder but fresher, with strong headwinds testing our resolve. While resting, Navinder ji offered me water, but I refused. I had committed to completing the 100 km ride without water—and I kept that promise.

Finally, after reaching the cantonment, I drank five glasses of sugarcane juice, while Navinder ji settled for two. It was a ride full of challenges, laughter, and “masti”—proof that age, weather, and obstacles mean nothing when the spirit is strong.
